Tottenham and Newcastle Vie for James Maddison

Leicester City midfielder, James Maddison, has seemingly caught the attention of English Premier League (EPL) rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

Reports surfaced via an international publication on Sunday, 25 June, that Tottenham intend to renew their efforts to sign the 26-year-old star, but they may expect to face competition from Newcastle.

Maddison – who is said to be valued at £60 million – currently has one year left on his contract with his relegated club but is reportedly keen on a move to the Hotspurs, who are currently sitting in 18th place in the EPL rankings. The Magpies are in a comparatively more secure position, at 15th place.

Spur’s initial bid for the player is believed to have been for roughly half of the amount that the Foxes were hoping to get for him and was subsequently rejected. Newcastle, on the other hand, have a generous transfer budget to work with and will be able to make a more reasonable offer.

Both prospective clubs are looking for a creative midfielder who can make a difference to their teams, which they believe they can find in Maddison who scored ten goals and made nine assists across 30 appearances last season.
